3-ACETYL-1-(P-TOLYLSULFONYL)PYRROLE Use and Manufacturing
Acetic anhydride (0.44 mL, 4.7 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of aluminum chloride (896 mg, 6.7 mmol) in 5.22 mL of dichloromethane. Acetic anhydride (39.4 mmol, 3.70 ml, 3 eq) was added dropwise to a suspension of anhydrous AlCl3 (78.8 mmol, 10.5 g, 6 eq) in CH2Cl2 (80 ml). The mixture was stirred for 15minutes until a clear solution was obtained. A solution of N-tosyl pyrrole 4 (13.1 mmol, 2.73g, 1 eq) in CH2Cl2 (20 ml) was then added slowly, and the mixture was stirred at roomtemperature for 2 hours until TLC showed completion. The reaction was quenched with icewater. The organic layer was separated and the aqueous layer was further extracted withCH2Cl2 (30 ml x 2). The combined organic layers were washed with saturated NaHCO3solution (20 ml), brine (20 ml), dried over MgSO4 and concentrated to give pyrrole SI-1 as apale yellow solid (3.0 g), which was used without further purification.2.
