To a solution of (4-adamantyl-1-yl-phenoxy)acetic acid ethyl ester 6 (1.10 g, 3.50 mmol) in THF/HGeneral procedure: A mixture of 4 (1.53 g, 5.0 mmol), lithium hydroxide monohydrate (258 mg, 6.1 mmol) in a 1:1 solution of THF and water (12 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 5 min. The reaction was quenched by HCl solution (1 N) and the organic solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The crude products were extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with saturated aqueous NaCl solution, dried over anhydrous MgSO
