Methods of Manufacturing

Cyclization with methoxyacetylacetone and ethyl cyanoacetate in the presence of ammonium hydroxide to produce 5-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methoxymethyl-2-methylpyridine, which is then nitrated with concentrated nitric acid to obtain 5 -Cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methoxymethyl-2-methyl-3-nitropyridine, the latter is prepared by chlorinating phosphorus oxychloride and hydrogenating under palladium-carbon catalyst.
