Colorless, odorless gas or liquid. Gas (at STP) has d 5.8971 g/L (air = 1.29 g/L), dielectric constant 1.0012 (25C) (1 atm); liquid has bp ?108.12C (1 mm Hg), d (at bp) of 1.987 g/cc; liquefaction temp?106.9C.Chemically unreactive but not completely inert. Noncombustible.

Excerpt from ERG Guide 121 [Gases - Inert]: Use extinguishing agent suitable for type of surrounding fire. Move containers from fire area if you can do it without risk. Damaged cylinders should be handled only by specialists. FIRE INVOLVING TANKS: Fight fire from maximum distance or use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles. Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire is out. Do not direct water at source of leak or safety devices; icing may occur. Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety devices or discoloration of tank. ALWAYS stay away from tanks engulfed in fire. Avoid allowing water runoff to contact spilled material. Do not direct water at spill or source of leak. If possible, turn leaking containers so that gas escapes rather than liquid. Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas. Allow substance to evaporate. Ventilate the area. (ERG, 2016)

Drug Information

Gases or volatile liquids that vary in the rate at which they induce anesthesia; potency; the degree of circulation, respiratory, or neuromuscular depression they produce; and analgesic effects. Inhalation anesthetics have advantages over intravenous agents in that the depth of anesthesia can be changed rapidly by altering the inhaled concentration. Because of their rapid elimination, any postoperative respiratory depression is of relatively short duration. Xenon Use and Manufacturing

Uses

This product is widely used in electronics and electric light source industries. Compared with the argon-filled bulb of the same power, the bulb filled with xenon gas has the advantages of high luminous efficiency, small size, long life and power saving. Because of its particularly strong ability to penetrate fog, it is often used as a foggy navigation light and is widely used in airports, stations, and docks. The concave surface of the xenon lamp can generate 2500℃ high temperature after being condensed, and can be used for welding or cutting refractory metals such as titanium and molybdenum. In medicine, xenon is a deep anesthetic without side effects, a contrast agent for X-ray photography.
