N-(4-Nitrophenyl)propionamide Use and Manufacturing

CHCH3CH2CONH(4-C6H4NO2) To a solution of 4-nitroaniline (7.5 mmol, 1.04 mg) in CH2Cl2 (30 mL) was added propionyl chloride (7.5 mmol, 0.70 mL) and the reaction mixture was stirred overnight at ambient temperature. The mixture was then filtered and the solvent of filtrate was removed in vacuum. The product was washed with hexane (10 mL). Compound N-(4-nitrophenyl)propionamide was obtained as a white powder after removal of hexane in vacuum. Yield 0.38 g (26%).Step 1: Synthesis of N-(4-nitrophenyl)propionamide Propionyl chloride was added to the solution of 4-nitroaniline (1.Og, 7.25 mmol), DMAP (40 mg), and pyridine (0.70 mL) in CH2Cl2 (30ml) at O0C. The reaction was stirred for 4 hours. The solution was washed with an aqueous 0.1N HCl, H2O, dried with Na2SO4, concentrated to afford yellow solid 1.37g. 1H NMR 600 MHz (DMSO-d6) delta 10.21 (s, IH), 8.10 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 2H), 7.90 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 2H), 2.38 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 2H), 1.04 (q, J=7.8 Hz, 7.2 Hz, 3H).
