DMF (50 mL) is added to a mixture of cytosine (8.333 g, 75 mmol) with N-iodosuccinimide (18.562 g, 82.5 mmol) under Ar. The vessel is covered in foil and ultrasonicated for 30 min to disrupt the solid mass at the bottom of the vessel.
