Vietnam focuses on the development of 14 kinds of fruit trees, exports will exceed $5 billion

Vietnam expects fruit exports to exceed $5 billion in 2025 and reach about $6.5 billion in 2023, according to Vietnamese media reports.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) recently approved the Focus Fruit Tree Plan for 2025-2030. Vietnam will focus on the development of 14 focus fruit trees, including dragon fruit, mango, banana, lychee, longan, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, rambutan, durian, jackfruit, passion fruit, avocado and shakya.

The planting scale of these fruit trees is expected to reach 960,000 hectares in 2025, and the fruit production will reach 1.1 to 1.2 million tons. By 2030, the planting scale will reach 1 million hectares and the fruit output will reach 1.3-1.4 million tons.

Statistics from Vietnam's General Administration of Customs show that dragon fruit was Vietnam's top fruit export in the first eight months of this year, reaching nearly $463 million. It was followed by bananas and durians, with exports of $237 million and $158 million, respectively.
