AMRI increases hydroxychloroquine sulfate production to meet COVID-19 demand
AMRI, the US pharmaceutical research and development and manufacturing contractor, said it has obtained an emergency authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to increase the production of the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine sulfate, which is identified as a potential treatment for COVID-19.
The company said it will use the production facility in Rensselaer (production of hydroxychloroquine sulfate) to cope with rising market demand for the product.
At present, AMRI has active type II dimethylformamide for the production of hydroxychloroquine sulfate, which can meet the rising demand. The FDA authorized the emergency use of hydroxychloroquine sulfate in March to treat some patients with new coronary pneumonia admitted to the hospital.
