DSM invests in Phynova, a producer of mulberry leaf hypoglycemic ingredients
DSM Venturing, the investment arm of Royal DSM, announced that it has participated as a cornerstone investor in a round of 10 million euros (US $ 10.8 million) in financing from British life science company Phynova.
Reducose is Phynova's patented raw material, extracted from white mulberry leaves, which can be easily added to foods and beverages during the production stage, or used as a food supplement.
Phynova said that by reducing the absorption of sugar and other carbohydrates in the diet by nearly 40%, Reduceose can reduce the impact of sugar and other carbohydrates with a high glycemic index on the human body.
David Lee, chief financial officer of Phynova, said the funds will be used to expand business. The company needs to increase production capacity to produce more products to meet supply demand, and the company currently has orders worth nearly $ 4 million.
Last year, DSM and Phynova signed a global distribution and cooperation agreement for Reduced raw materials. This move aims to further expand the value proposition, including the scientific nature of Reduceose and related health benefits, as well as the technical application of various forms of delivery. The cooperation with Phynova will strengthen DSM's solutions in the field of heart health and blood sugar control.
