L'Oréal's Fragrance Roger&Gallet will withdraw from the Chinese market
On May 24th, Roger&Gallet notified in the member's text message: Roger&Gallet Tmall flagship store will be closed on June 30.
In addition, brand member points will be redeemed as of July 26th, and all member services will be officially closed on the evening of July 31st.
In fact, as early as February of this year, L'Oreal said that it is negotiating with French holding company Impala on the sale of its personal care brand Roger & Gallet. The transaction is expected to be completed this summer, but no specific details were disclosed.
According to public information, Roger&Gallet was founded in 1862 and inherited the cologne formula. It has been chased by the European royal family. It was formally acquired by L'Oreal in 2008. At the end of 2015, L'Oreal China successfully completed the access work on the registration of Chinese trademarks and product filings of Roger&Gallet. On May 19, 2016, the first store in China was opened in Joy City, Beijing, and in less than 3 weeks, four stores were successfully opened nationwide.
Charlotte Franceries, the global brand director of Roger&Gallet, explained at that time: Roger&Gallet decided to expand the market in the world, and China became an important option and a very important piece. In particular, she mentioned, "Compared with 10 years ago, Chinese consumers have become more and more demanding for natural products in recent years. At this time, Roger&Gallet is more likely to be loved by Chinese consumers when entering the Chinese market."
At that time, Liu Yang, the brand director of Fragrance Gree China, said that the sales of the first three companies had greatly exceeded expectations. In Taikoo Li, Chengdu, this new brand can even rank in the top 2 or top 3 of the entire cosmetics counter.
The sales of Roger&Gallet in fiscal 2018 were 52 million euros, and the sales of the L'Oréal high-end cosmetics division of the brand in fiscal 2018 increased by 10% year-on-year to 9.37 billion euros.
As of press time, the number of fans of Roger&Gallet Tmall flagship store is 510,000. Although participating in the 6.18 promotion, only 15 products are currently on the Tmall flagship store page.
