The European Union revises some food regulations of animal origin

According to the official journal of the European Union on November 18, 2022, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2022/2258, amending Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 and (EU) 2019/624 respectively. The main amendments are: (1) Annex III of Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 on food of animal origin Specific hygiene requirements for fish products, eggs and certain highly refined products; (2) replace point (a)(v) of Article 1 of Regulation (EU) 2019/624 with the following: "Repeal of Article 18(6) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 on the classification of production and relay zones associated with scallops, marine gastropods and echinoderms"; (3) Amend Article 11 of Regulation (EU) 2019/624 to read: "Official control of non-filter-feeding scallops, marine gastropods and echinoderms harvested in production areas that have not been classified in accordance with Article 18(6) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 is not required when the competent authorities exercise official control over such animals at fish auctions, dispatch centres and processing sites, non-filter-feeding scallops, Fishing of marine gastropods and echinoderms is classified for production and relay areas. Such official controls shall verify compliance with: (a)(EC) Regulation No853/2004, Annex III, Section VII, Chapter V, the health standards for live bivalve molluscs; (b) Chapter IX of this section sets out specific requirements for non-filter-feeding scallops, marine gastropods and echinoderms harvested outside classified production areas"; (4) The Regulation shall be fully binding and directly applicable to all Member States.
