EU Revises the Regulation on the Use of Polysorbate in Carbonated Beverages

Recently, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2020/356, amending the European Parliament and Council (EC) No 1333/2008 Regulation II on the use of polysorbate (E 432-436) in carbonated beverages. After the evaluation, it is appropriate to authorize the use of polysorbate (E 432-436) at a maximum level of 10 mg/kg in food categories 14.1.4 "Flavored beverages", 14.2.3 "Apple cider" and other products. On the same day, the European Commission issued Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/355 to amend the European Parliament and Council (EC) No 1333/2008 Regulation II on the use of polyglycerol polyricinoleate in liquid vegetable oil emulsions (E 476) The use regulations, after evaluation, are authorized in the food category 02.2.2 "Other fats" and in oil emulsions, including spreads and liquid emulsions as defined in Regulation (EC) No 1234/2007, polyglycerol polyricinoleic acid Ester (E 476) is used as an emulsifier for liquid vegetable oil emulsions, and the usage limit is revised to 4000 mg/kg. The above regulations take effect on the 20th day after the publication of the Official Journal of the European Union.
