Spend 550 million! PPG's Innovation Center in China will soon be operational
Recently, PPG's Global Coatings Innovation Center located in Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone has entered the commissioning stage and is expected to be put into use next year.
The Innovation Center is PPG's second largest R&D center in the world outside of Allison Park in the U.S. and will support PPG's business throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
With the continuous development of production scale and market demand, PPG Coatings (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. invested 550 million yuan to build the "PPG Global Coatings Innovation Center - TEDA Project" at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Beihai Road in Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone. The project covers an area of 32,000 square meters, with a construction area of 33,469 square meters and a registered capital of 80 million US dollars, which started construction in February 2021 and will be put into use in January 2023.
It is reported that the main construction contents of the project include: R & D center 1 (Class C) (1#), R & D center 2 (Class A) (2#), Class A warehouse (3#), Class C warehouse (4#), public workshop (5#), 2 guard rooms, 1 bicycle shed. After completion, it mainly carries out coating product research and development experiments, product formula formulation and testing, and provides technical support and services to customers.
After the completion of the project, it is expected to complete about 73,000 sets of experiments throughout the year, involving battery coatings, UV coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, automotive refinish coatings, packaging coatings, architectural coatings, wood coatings, electronic coatings and industrial coatings, and the research and development volume of a single group of experiments is about 40ml~100ml samples. About 60%~80% of the R&D samples obtained from a single set of experiments are used for the application test of the spraying process of this project, and the other 20%~40% of the R&D samples are provided to other PPG Group companies for further R&D and use in the form of test samples, and the test samples obtained are not sold to the outside world.
As PPG's only global R&D center outside the U.S., 30% of the new technologies developed in Tianjin will support PPG's global business development, 30% will support the development of the Asia-Pacific region, and 40% will support the solution of cutting-edge problems in the Chinese market. PPG's Smart Mobility Coatings Application Center in Tianjin will also be put into use next year.
