Bayer Bacillus subtilis biocide Minuet® is registered in Canada to control soil-borne diseases of potatoes and other vegetable crops

foodmate 2022-12-15

Chinese Bayer CropScience recently announced that Minuet® biofungicides have been approved in Canada for soil biologics for potatoes and other vegetables. Minuet biofungicide adopts FRAC Group BM02 fungicide active ingredient (Bacillus subtilis strain QST 713) to prevent soil-borne diseases, such as rhizoctonia root rot, black nevus and stem canker disease, and also has a certain control effect on powder rot and root rot caused by Fusarium, Phytophthora and Physidiobacter.

Minuet® is designed for soil applications and benefits the entire crop life cycle, helping to improve crop quality and yield potential. Minuet® is a concentrated formulation of Serenade®® SOIL, a proven trench biocide. Minuet's® low-usage and centralized packaging supports sustainability in agriculture by reducing volume and waste.

"Canadian potato and vegetable growers now have another tool in their field management," said Meghann Garlough, Fruit and Vegetable Event Marketing Manager. Minuet® is also compatible with other goose products, such as Velum® Prime nematicide/fungicide. ″

In addition, Propulse® fungicides and Proline GOLD® (active ingredient: fluphopyramide 200 g/L + propthiazole 200 g/L) are now registered for potato use in Eastern and Western Canada, respectively. With the powerful properties of the active substances of prothiazole (Group 3) and fluyconamide (Group 7), potato growers can apply Propulse® or Proline GOLD® to control early blight, brown leaf spot and white mold while suppressing black spot disease.

"Propulse® excels in white mold from dried and edible legumes and blueberries, and hopes to roll out the same performance to potato growers in eastern Canada in the future," Garlough said. "Similarly, Proline GOLD® excels in controlling sclerotia/leukomold in canola and legumes in Western Canada. Both Propulse® and Proline GOLD® control Alternaria and leucobacteria in potatoes very well, and each product is easy to use and follows the same label.

Minuet®, Propulse® and Proline GOLD® are available to potato growers during the 2023 growing season.
