There will be huge growth opportunities for Vietnam's agricultural products in 2023

With the diversification of the market and products, the export value of rice, aquatic products, coffee, etc. has reached a new record. Agricultural exports exceeded $53 billion, with a trade surplus of $7.8 billion, up nearly 48 percent from last year.

Although production is facing high raw materials and prices, the market is affected by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the production protection policies of some countries, and the increasingly stringent requirements of countries for imported products, 2022 continues to be a successful year for Vietnam's agriculture, forestry and fishery product exports. With the diversification of the market and products, the export value of rice, aquatic products, coffee, etc. has reached a new record. Agricultural exports exceeded $53 billion, with a trade surplus of $7.8 billion, up nearly 48 percent from last year.

After more than 20 years of participation in the international market, the seafood industry has set a record export value of nearly 11 billion US dollars. Le Yong, communications director of the Vietnam Association for Processing and Export of Aquatic Products (VASEP), said this year was the most on record. That is, shrimp exports reached a record $4.3 billion, fish catches reached $2.4 billion, a record growth rate of nearly 80 per cent, and tuna reached $1 billion for the first time.

In 2022, the economic and social environment will be relatively stable, allowing aquatic product enterprises to resume production and export. Demand in the European Union and the United States recovered strongly after two years of restrictions due to the epidemic.

Tao Shiying, vice president of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, commented that agriculture and other economic sectors have made unremitting efforts to recover after the COVID-19 epidemic. Agriculture has made remarkable achievements, thanks to the solid foundation of accumulation and development of many years of structural adjustment.

In the past year, many agricultural products have entered many national markets, such as durian, sweet potatoes, bird's nest, etc. into the Chinese market; Yuzu is exported to the United States; Longan exported to Japan; Lemons and grapefruit enter New Zealand.

Looking back on the results of market opening in 2022, Huang Zhong, Director General of the Plant Protection Bureau, stressed that in 2023, agriculture will continue to work hard to expand more markets.

Mr. Tao Shiying said, "In the future, we will continue to diversify our markets, including China; Organize production to ensure market requirements for food safety, and complete all post-harvest links including packaging and bags. I believe there are still huge growth opportunities in agriculture and agricultural exports will achieve positive growth in 2023."
