The European Union approved shiitake mycelium-fermented peas and rice proteins as new food products
According to the Official Journal of the European Union, on January 4, 2023, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2023/6 approving peas and rice fermented by shiitake mushroom mycelium in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 2015/2283 of the European Parliament and of the Council Protein (pea and rice protein fermented by Lentinula edodes (Shiitake mushroom) mycelia) was launched on the market as a novel food and amended the Annex to Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.
