Solvay Slashing 600 Jobs; Restructures Business
Solvay SA said that it is planning to cut 600 jobs, mostly in functional activities, as part of a restructuring program.
The job cuts are mainly in France, Portugal and Brazil. The company also announced plans to concentrate more on research activities in Lyon and Brussels.
The group, which employs approximately 24,500 people in 61 countries, said it was simplifying its structure after it had sold off numerous specialty units over the past years.
The job cuts include 160 net redundancies in France, 90 in Portugal and 80 in Brazil.
In France, the company plans to upgrade its largest global research site in Lyon to a center for advanced chemistry. In Brussels (Belgium), the expansion of Research and Innovation (R&I) in advanced materials science.
