Coase's innovative film former helps cosmetics lasting
More and more consumers require products not only to make them look good, but also to be sustainable. This poses a challenge for cosmetics manufacturers: their formulas need to be used continuously throughout the day while also containing a large proportion of plant-based ingredients. Covestro’s new film-forming agent Baycusan® eco E 1001 meets these two requirements and at the same time helps cosmetic manufacturers increase the acceptance of their products.
"With this development, we are responding to consumers' growing environmental awareness. We are also helping our customers improve sustainability." said Mélanie Dick, Covestro Cosmetics Global Marketing Manager. "This project is also part of the strategic plan. According to this plan, Covestro plans to fully focus on the circular economy. One of our focus areas is the use of alternative raw materials such as biomass in production."
Natural film former with beneficial properties
Baycusan®eco E 1001 is part of a new product line of polyurethane components based on at least 50% renewable raw materials. It meets the requirements of ISO standard 16128 for natural materials. This partially bio-based film former helps prevent adverse effects, such as haze or oxidation in natural cosmetic formulations. In addition, it maintains the advantageous properties of synthetic film formers, such as water resistance, abrasion resistance and transfer resistance provided by traditional cosmetic formulations.
In April last year, Covestro demonstrated Baycusan®eco E 1000 (INCI: Polyurethane-93), the first product in its new eco-series at the Cosmetics Global Exhibition in Paris. It was developed to meet all the requirements of modern high-performance hair styling products. Compared with synthetic standard products, it has excellent flexibility and moisture resistance and good retention.
