China's cosmetics retail sales up 9.2% year-on-year in July

According to the Bureau of Statistics, from January to July, the total retail sales of consumer goods amounted to 204.459 billion yuan, down 9.9 percent year-on-year, while the total retail sales of cosmetics amounted to 170.8 billion yuan, up 1 percent year-on-year. In July, the country's total retail sales of consumer goods were 3,220.3 billion yuan, down 1.1 percent year-on-year, while total retail sales of cosmetics were 23 billion yuan, up 9.2 percent year-on-year.

From the data released by the Bureau of Statistics, the epidemic prevention and control situation in July continued to improve, the order of life of residents continued to recover, and the resumption of wholesale, retail, accommodation and catering enterprises to resume business and the market steadily progressed. Driven by the implementation of a number of policies such as the strategy of expanding domestic demand and promoting the consumption of key commodities, market sales continued to improve, retail sales of goods achieved year-on-year growth, food and beverage revenue continued to rebound, and new types of consumption maintained rapid growth.

In terms of growth rate, the cosmetics category slowed down in July, falling back by more than 10 percentage points compared with June's growth of 20.5%. However, the 20.5% growth recorded in June was due to factors such as the 6-18 e-commerce rush, which drove significant retail growth. Among consumer goods categories, cosmetics remained strong, ranking fourth with a 9.2% growth. The top three were automotive goods with 12.3% growth, communication equipment goods with 11.3% growth, and beverages with 10.7% growth.
 
Comparing the data, it can be seen that the retail sales of cosmetics category continued to show growth in April, May and June, reaching a maximum of 32.6 billion in June and falling to the April level in July. However, from January to July, the total retail value of cosmetics reached 170.8 billion yuan, an increase of 1% year-on-year, finally catching up with the same period last year.
