Cosmetics consumption in China, five consecutive months of positive growth

According to the latest consumer market data for January to August 2020 released by China's National Bureau of Statistics, China's total retail sales of consumer goods rose by 0.5% year-on-year to 335.1 billion yuan in August, marking the first positive growth in the consumer goods market this year. Among all retail commodity categories, the retail of consumer upgrade goods accelerated growth, with cosmetics retail sales surging 19% to 28.4 billion yuan, second only to 25.1% of communication equipment goods, which has recorded positive growth for five consecutive months. In the first eight months of this year, the retail value of cosmetics reached RMB 96.6 billion, up 3.2 per cent year-on-year.
