India will ban Dicofol, Dinocap and Methomyl
On 2 February 2023, India announced that the registration, import, manufacture, transport, sale and use of Dicofol, Dinocap and Methomyl would be completely banned from the date of the final publication of the draft
The order is related to a draft, that 27 pesticides are banned issued by the Agriculture Ministry on May 18, 2020. The draft is based on the results of a review process initiated by the Committee of experts appointed on 8 August 2013.
27 pesticides banned by the Department of Agriculture
The draft came as a surprise to India's agrochemical industry, with the 27 banned products accounting for nearly 40% of total pesticide sales in the Indian market. Not just at home, some of these are among India's largest agricultural chemicals exports. The ban has been challenged by a number of high courts in India due to its impact on business and other related issues, and the Rajasthan Hampur High Court issued an interim order on 21 July 2020 to stay the ban until the case is further decided. A few states, including Punjab and Tamil Nadu, have reportedly temporarily banned a small number of pesticides, and the federal department may make a permanent decision.
on 18 January 2023, the Rajasthan Hampur High Court announced that the interim order of 21 July 2020 had been set aside. It was speculated that the lifting of the ban might lead to a resumption of the ban process, and indeed the government issued a draft on February 2, 2023. All relevant entities, including natural and legal persons, have put forward proposals or objections.
