PPG launches new fire retardant coatings
On February 14, PPG announced the launch of the PPG STEELGUARD 951 paint. This epoxy expansive fire retardant coating is very innovative and can well meet the needs of modern steel structures.
In the event of a fire, the paint expands from a thin, lightweight coating to a thick, foam-like insulating coating, which helps insulate steel structures and maintain the integrity and stability of protected structures, allowing more time to escape and reducing damage to buildings and assets, according to PPG. The PPG Steelguard 951 paint also provides effective corrosion protection in highly corrosive atmosphere. It meets ISO 12944 C5 corrosion protection requirements without the need for a finish coat, achieving the same level of corrosion protection and durability while reducing project time and cost. Its single dry film thickness can be up to 3500 microns, curing and drying very quickly, the steel structure can be transported the next day after spraying fire retardant coating.
"Steel structures are playing an increasingly important role in modern construction," said Richard Mann, global Passive Fire Protection product manager for PPG's Industrial Protection and Marine Coatings business. "Steel structures for all types of buildings are designed based on function to meet specific fire protection, corrosion protection and aesthetic requirements. "The PPG Steelguard 951 paint provides an attractive finish and long-lasting protection against corrosion. It also provides efficient fire protection to ensure the stability of steel structures in a fire."
