Lanxess, Coxtron reach agreement to produce key basic chemicals

soutuliao 2023-02-28

Lanxess recently announced that it will cooperate with Coxtron to produce more sustainable raw materials with a smaller carbon dioxide footprint, and reached an agreement on the production of key basic chemicals.

Lanxess said it would source chlorine, sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas from Coxtron's production sites in Leverkusen and Krefeld-Udingen. At the same time, about a third of Coxtron's power to produce products for Lanxess will come from hydropower with guaranteed origin.

Klaus Schafer, Chief Technology Officer of Coxtron, said: "Coxtron is seeking to achieve climate neutrality in its operations by 2035 by completely using electricity from renewable resources in its production process. In collaboration with Lanxess, we reduced our reported carbon dioxide emissions by 120,000 tonnes per year by using proportionate energy at our electrolytic plant in North Rhine-Westphalia."

"The joint project with Coxtron is an important foundation for us to achieve climate neutrality across the value chain," said Hu Feng, member of Lanxess Group Management Board. By sourcing raw materials with a significantly smaller carbon footprint for the production of our products, we were able to reduce reported indirect emissions by 120,000 tons of CO2e per year."
