KBR Bags EPC Contract for Saudi Arabia's Crude Oil to Chemicals Project

Chemical Weekly 2018-05-17

American EPC firm, KBR, has secured a contract from Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and SABIC to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the integrated crude oil-to-chemicals (COTC) project in Saudi Arabia.

Under the contract, KBR will serve as the second project management contractor (PMC) to provide pre-front-end engineering design (pre-FEED), FEED, and programme management services to develop the project. KBR will execute the project from its Houston, Al-Khobar, and Chennai offices. The facility is expected to become operational in 2025.

The COTC complex will leverage advanced refining technologies, innovative process configurations and conversion technologies to create a fully integrated petrochemical complex. It is intended to optimise chemicals while further diversifying the petrochemical feedstock mix in Saudi Arabia.

“We understand the strategic importance of the long-term investment that Saudi Aramco and SABIC are undertaking in this project and the pivotal role that KBR will have in the overall success of this important programme,” KBR’s President and CEO, Mr. Stuart Bradie, commented.
