KBR Launches KCOTKlean to Decarbonize Petrochemicals

ECHEMI 2024-07-10

KBR has launched KCOTKlean, a suite of low- and zero-carbon technologies designed to decarbonize catalytic olefins processes. The technology combines KBR’s catalytic olefins technology, K-COT, with the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials’ (KIMM) CPOx technology.

KCOTKlean achieves significant carbon reductions by leveraging recycled feeds, clean fuels, electrification or carbon capture. This innovation builds on KBR’s proprietary catalytic olefins process, K-COT, known for its high efficiency in converting low-value olefins, paraffins or mixed streams into high-value propylene and ethylene. KIMM’s CPOx technology converts methane-rich fuels to hydrogen-rich fuels, optimizing combustion in the catalytic regeneration environment and providing diverse fuel options for the K-COT catalyst regenerator.

"Our ultimate goal is to turn sustainable concepts into reality and help our customers transition to a more sustainable world," said Hari Ravindran, senior vice president and global head of KBR Technology Solutions. "KCOTKlean represents a significant change in cracking technology. By combining KIMM's innovative technology with our own, we can not only improve the efficiency and performance of the process, but also contribute to a more sustainable future."

KBR has licensed more than 100 new ethylene plants to produce ethylene, propylene and other by-products from a variety of feedstocks using its cost-effective, energy-efficient cracking technology and flexible plant design.
