A few days ago, a research team from the Key Laboratory of Chemistry of Northwest Specialty Plant Resources, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, using modern separation technology, structure identification technology and drug screening technology, from the dried ripe peel of Szechuan pepper found phenylethanol acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, isolation and preparation of green pepper antioxidant active components, and elucidate the molecular structure of the main active substance.

Szechuan pepper is the dried mature peel of green pepper or Szechuan pepper of the Brassicaceae family, which is a medicinal resource with a history of more than 3000 years of cultivation in China. Szechuan pepper root, trunk, branches, leaves, fruits have special uses. A research team from the Key Laboratory of Chemistry of Northwest Specialty Plant Resources, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, isolated and identified a steroidal compound with a carbon skeleton from Szechuan pepper. The compound is a steroidal natural product containing 34 carbons.
