Basf started production of polyol Sovermol® in Mengalore, India

soutuliao 2023-03-10

Basf has started production of its first bio-based polyol Sovermol® at its Mangalore site in India to meet the rapidly growing demand for environmentally friendly products in the Asia-Pacific region for new energy vehicles (NEVs), wind power, floor and industrial protective coatings.

The Sovermol® production facility is now operational after comprehensive planning and construction, utilizing the existing facilities at the Mengalore site.

"At BASF, we leverage our global expertise and capabilities to serve our markets more efficiently," said Dr. Claus Dallner, Senior Vice President of BASF's Global Resins and Additives Business unit. The Asia-Pacific region is one of the world's fastest growing markets for new energy vehicles and coatings. Sovermol's production facilities are strategically located close to where raw materials are supplied. This will significantly reduce transportation time and help us achieve our goal of providing 'best in class' products and services to our customers in the Asia Pacific region."

Dr. Alba Mena Subiranas, Vice President of Operations for BASF's Global Resin and Additives Business Unit, added, "We are always focused on improving our technology and operations to achieve business success. This project demonstrates our operational strength and efficiency, as well as our strong commitment to continuously optimize and transform Mengelore's operations."

Sovermol is derived from renewable materials and contains no volatile organic compounds (VOC). Sovermol products are used to produce sustainable coatings and adhesives for a variety of industries, helping customers reduce their carbon footprint and conserve resources.

Basf Mengalore has been in operation since 1996. Covering more than 200 hectares, it is BASF's largest production site in South Asia. The site produces polymer dispersions, fine chemical catalysts and automotive coatings for the paper, agricultural and automotive industries.
