PPG launches Revolutionary 'Black Tech'

PPG SIGMAGLIDE®2390 Marine paint is a breakthrough technology that will help shipowners reduce power consumption and carbon emissions, meet the need for higher performance without adversely affecting the Marine environment, coatings giant PPG announced on March 6.

Prolong life by over 10 years! PPG launches Revolutionary 'Black Tech'

PPG SIGMAGLIDE®2390 Marine Paint uses revolutionary technology to create super-smooth, nearly frictionless surfaces that help ship owners reduce power consumption and carbon emissions.

The biocidal dirt release coating is based on the revolutionary PPG HYDRORESET™ technology, which modifies the coating when submerged in water to create an ultra-smooth, almost frictionless surface that Marine life cannot recognize and cannot adhere to.

According to third-party evidence that complies with ISO 19030 and ITTC* standards, the coating enables ships to keep their hull clean and reduce drag, achieving power savings of up to 20%, speed loss performance of less than 1%, and a 35% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to conventional antifouling coatings. Actual performance will depend on ship type and operating conditions.

PPG Sigmaglide 2390 paint helps shipowners and operators meet greenhouse gas reduction targets under the IMO Energy Efficiency (EEXI and EEDI) and Carbon Intensity (CII) requirements, which came into force this year.
