Basf Zhanjiang Integrated base acrylic acid production complex broke ground
Ground has been broken on a new production complex at BASF's Zhanjiang integrated site, which includes a GAA unit, a butyl acrylate (BA) unit and a 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA) unit. The complex is scheduled to begin production in 2025 and will have an annual capacity of about 400,000 tons of butyl acrylate and about 100,000 tons of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate.
Hartwig Michels, President of BASF's Petrochemicals Business unit, said: "This ground breaking is an important milestone in further expanding our acrylic value chain capacity in China. These new world-class facilities will help us meet the growing demand for acrylic products in the Chinese and Asian markets. These acrylic products are used in a wide range of applications, such as sanitary products, paints and coatings."
Haibo Tian, vice President of Industrial Petrochemical Business Management for BASF Asia Pacific, added: "By focusing on strengthening our business footprint in key markets and customer locations, we can more effectively drive customer business growth. By fully advancing the backward integration capabilities of the Zhanjiang integrated site, the new acrylic facility will provide customers in our region with a reliable, high-quality product supply and a shortened delivery cycle."
Acrylic acid is an important precursor to produce superabsorbent resin. Butyl acrylate is one of the esters of acrylic acid, used in the production of adhesives, architectural coatings and industrial coatings. Acrylic acid 2-ethylhexyl ester is an important raw material for adhesives and coatings industry.
