Sasol, Topsoe form aviation fuel joint venture

ECHEMI 2023-03-21

South Africa's Sasol and Denmark's Topsoe have recently signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a 50/50 joint venture in 2023 to develop sustainable solutions for aviation fuel (SAF). The aviation industry accounts for 3 percent of global carbon emissions and is in dire need of low-carbon solutions, the companies said.

It is reported that Sasol and Topsoe seek to improve and accelerate the production development of SAF through establishing a joint venture. The joint venture will be based on Sasol's Fischer Tropsch and Topsoe's related SAF technologies, using green hydrogen, sustainable sources of CO2 and biomass to produce SAF from non-fossil raw materials. These unique and complementary technologies provide multiple pathways for the large-scale production of SAFs.
