Kazakh food prices continued their downward trend for the third consecutive week

Hartunsha/Astana/April 3 -- The prices of six food items in the country - hulled buckwheat, potatoes, carrots, Onions, cabbage and sugar - have maintained a downward trend for three consecutive weeks.

According to the Ministry of Trade and Integration, measures to ease and restore normal market prices by releasing related reserves from the national reserve pool have been effective.

Selek Zumanhalin, acting Minister of Trade and Integration, presided over a weekly briefing on the price of domestic food during a regular government working meeting on Wednesday.

In the past week, the national price of shelled buckwheat fell by 1.3 percent, sugar by 0.8 percent, Onions by 0.3 percent and potatoes by 0.7 percent, Trade Commission acting Chairman Aydar Ablidabbekov said.

- At the same time, in three regions, namely Almaty City, Dongha and Almaty, the price of sunflower oil decreased by 1.1 per cent. - He said.

According to the Oilseed Processors Association, sunflower seed prices are down 30 percent and oil prices are down 19 percent from November of last year compared to October and November of 2022.

At present, refined sunflower oil produced by domestic oil plants sells for between 630 and 680 tenge per litre.

The downward trend in prices is continuing in Mangus. Meanwhile, in Sih state, onion and sugar prices dropped 2.9% and 3.8%, respectively, from the previous week. Prices in northern Kazakhstan are relatively stable.

The Ministry of Agriculture said at the meeting that there are sufficient reserves of vegetables and food in all regions of China, and it expects to be able to ensure the domestic supply of related food before the new season of vegetable products hit the market.
