Siemens Energy joins European renewable energy business

Siemens Energy has announced that it and its partners have signed a contract worth approximately $7.68 billion to provide transmission technology for a large-scale renewable energy project in the North Sea.

Siemens Energy and its partner Dragados Offshore will supply HVDC transmission systems for the following three grid connections in the German North Sea: BalWin3, LanWin2 and LanWin4.

The three 2 GW base power facilities will transmit 6 GW of offshore wind power to the onshore grid in northern Germany.

The main electrical components of the project, such as switchgear, transformers and converter technology will be manufactured at Siemens Energy's European plants.

The deal is part of contracts worth nearly $33 billion, following agreements signed in March 2023 to build converter stations and a transmission network in the North Sea to connect 40 GW of offshore wind assets to the Netherlands and Germany.
