Wanhua Chemical Ningbo Plant resumes production of MDI Phase II unit

On January 12, 2021, Wanhua Chemical issued an announcement stating that according to the company’s “Announcement on Routine Suspension of Production and Maintenance of the MDI Phase II of Ningbo Plant of Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd.” on November 24, 2020, the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary The company's Wanhua Chemical (Ningbo) Co., Ltd.'s MDI Phase II unit (800,000 tons/year) will be shut down for maintenance on December 15, 2020, and the maintenance is expected to be about 25 days. Up to now, the shutdown and maintenance of the above-mentioned MDI device has been completed and normal production has resumed.

It is reported that MDI and TDI are substitutes for each other and both are raw materials for the production of polyurethane. Because MDI devices have the characteristics of high barriers and high investment, the price of MDI is slightly more expensive, but its toxicity is lower than that of TDI. At the same time, the moldability of polyurethane products formed by MDI is relatively good. Downstream of MDI is mainly rigid foaming, such as refrigerators and freezers, cold chain transportation and insulation, as well as spraying, sheet metal and other industries. Among domestic manufacturers, Wanhua Chemical and Cangzhou Dahua are the most representative.
