In the United States, a staggering 6,000 women transition into menopause daily, totaling 2 million individuals annually. According to the Mayo Clinic, women are projected to spend one-third of their lives in menopause, reflecting current life expectancies. Despite this substantial demographic shift, the beauty and personal care industry has been slow to adapt to the evolving needs of this expanding population.
Throughout the perimenopausal, menopausal, and postmenopausal phases, women commonly grapple with hormonal breakouts, dehydrated skin, diminished elasticity, and challenges like painful sex and vaginal dryness.
Responding to these issues, 66% of menopausal women have incorporated additional anti-aging facial skincare products to address specific menopause-related effects. Additionally, 33% have adopted more hydrating facial skincare regimens than they used before menopause.
Intimate care preferences have also shifted, with 51% of women purchasing vaginal lubricants upon entering any of the menopausal stages.
The good news is that there are ingredients and formulation approaches available to ensure consumers can access beauty and personal care products tailored to address the unique challenges of this sometimes complex life stage.
