Sumitomo Seika Announces It Will Double Its Water-Absorbent Resin Production Capacity

ECHEMI 2023-11-21

Recently, Sumitomo Seika announced that it will expand its water-absorbent resin production capacity at its Jurong Island plant in western Singapore. The capacity expansion plan will invest US$160 million to double the annual production capacity of water-absorbent resin to 140,000 tons.

It is said that against the background of population growth and rising income in Southeast Asia, the disposable diaper market in the region is expanding. Sumitomo Seika's expansion of water-absorbent resin supply capacity is to seize this market opportunity.

Sumitomo Seika's local subsidiary Sumitomo Seika Singapore will be responsible for the plant expansion, which is scheduled to be completed in October 2025. Once completed and put into operation, the annual production capacity of water-absorbent resins of the entire Sumitomo Seika Group will increase to 520,000 tons.
