Breakthrough in Gastric Cancer Treatment: Claudin18.2 Antibody Enters Phase III Clinical Trials
In a significant development, the clinical trials for the third phase of gastric cancer treatment using the Claudin18.2 antibody have been initiated by Ausacin. This groundbreaking therapy aims to revolutionize the management of advanced gastric cancer. Let's delve into the details of this promising research.
Ausacin, a leading biopharmaceutical company, recently registered the Claudin18.2 antibody, ASKB589, in combination with trastuzumab and chemotherapy, for the third phase of clinical trials. The study protocol aims to include 780 patients with advanced recurrent or metastatic gastric cancer. The preliminary results are expected to be available by the end of 2026.
The phase III clinical trial will employ a treatment regimen combining PD-1 inhibitors, the Claudin18.2 antibody, and chemotherapy. This innovative approach will be compared head-to-head with PD-1 inhibitors and chemotherapy alone. The primary endpoint of the trial will be progression-free survival (PFS), while overall survival (OS) will serve as the secondary endpoint.
Notably, Ausacin's Claudin18.2 antibody has gained significance due to the recent FDA delay in approving Ansatela's Claudin18.2 antibody due to CDMO production issues. This setback has provided an opportunity for Ausacin and other companies to advance their research in this field. In China, Ausacin, along with Chuangsheng Group and Mingji Biotech, has commenced phase III clinical trials. All three companies have adopted an ADCC-enhanced design.
In terms of treatment strategies, both Chuangsheng Group and Ausacin have opted for the combination of PD-1 inhibitors and chemotherapy as a first-line treatment. On the other hand, Mingji Biotech has chosen to target patients with low PD-L1 expression and compare monotherapy with chemotherapy.
The initiation of phase III clinical trials for the Claudin18.2 antibody in gastric cancer treatment marks a significant advancement in the field. Ausacin's research, along with other companies, holds immense promise for improving the outcomes of patients with advanced gastric cancer. The results of these trials are eagerly awaited, as they have the potential to shape the future of gastric cancer therapy.
