On January 19, BASF's Monomers Business Unit and its important partner in the isocyanate business, Xuchuan Chemical, held a strategic cooperation launch ceremony. The two parties will jointly carry out strategic cooperation on biomass balance (BMB) diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) in the application of synthetic leather.

The primary goal of this cooperation is to reduce carbon emissions in the production process of polyurethane products in the synthetic leather industry. Both parties will give full play to their respective advantages. BASF will rely on its expertise in biomass balance (BMB) MDI production, Xuchuan Chemical makes full use of its operating network in the synthetic leather industry chain to jointly achieve cooperation goals.

Dr. Ruan Kaiming, President of BASF's Global Monomers Business Unit, emphasized BASF's determination to deepen cooperation with Xuchuan. He said: "Xuchuan Chemical is the first company in China to use BASF's BMB MDI to produce products. This cooperation is crucial for BASF to build a more sustainable synthetic leather value chain in Greater China. We look forward to working closely with downstream customers to provide products to meet the growing demand for sustainable and innovative solutions in the region."

Biomass balance products are an important part of BASF's efforts to promote sustainable solutions. Currently, BASF has two production bases in the Asia-Pacific region that can provide ISCC+1 certified BMB MDI, located in Yeosu, South Korea and Chongqing, China.

Huang Ruobing, senior vice president of BASF and responsible for the Asia Pacific Monomers Business Unit, said: "BASF is committed to providing companies in the value chain with a recyclable and low-carbon footprint product portfolio. The recent ISCC+ certification obtained by our Chongqing site not only further affirms our commitment, but also emphasizes our determination to promote sustainable solutions in the Chinese market. "

Jiang Ping, Chairman of Xuchuan Chemical, said: “This biomass balance MDI order is an important milestone in our long-term cooperative relationship with BASF and will set a positive example for our future cooperation.
