Geka receives high EcoVadis rating for sustainability
German cosmetics applicator manufacturer Geka has been awarded the EcoVadis Platinum sustainability rating for the fourth consecutive time. This result places Geka among the top 1% of evaluated companies.
EcoVadis independently assessed Geka in four categories, combining the results to arrive at the final rating. Geka scored in the top 1% in the environment, ethics, and labor and human rights categories, and in the top 3% in the sustainable procurement category.
"This is a great result and demonstrates our commitment to creating a responsible cosmetics industry. Our performance improved this year even as EcoVadis expanded its criteria, demonstrating that our long-term sustainability strategy is working. It also shows our customers and users that our approach to beauty is more than skin deep and that we are committed to protecting our planet and supporting society." commented Oliver Vogel, CEO of Geka.
Geka is developing a structured sustainability program across its business, one of which is the introduction of sustainable materials into its products. In 2023, Geka launched the first commercially available post-consumer recycled (PCR) fiber filament for use in vegan-friendly mascara and eyebrow brushes. Additionally, its Reborn line of mascaras, lip glosses, brow brushes, cleansing pads and accessories contain at least 93% PCR and bio-based materials.
Additionally, Geka has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2029 compared to 2019 levels, a commitment that has been independently verified by the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi). The company has also committed to achieving zero waste to landfill by 2025.
