Canada approved a new herbicide series of Diflufenican
Recently, Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has approved the sale and use of Diflufenican and its formulation products SC500, SC600 and SC617, providing Canadian farmers with more efficient weed control options.
Diflufenican is a selective fatty acid synthase inhibitor class of herbicides, which can not synthesize carotenoids by inhibiting the activity of phytoene desaturase and cause their death. This kind of herbicide has a long lasting effect and is a pre-bud and post-bud treatment agent. It is mainly used to control various weeds in rice, wheat, barley and other crop fields.
SC500, an active ingredient of Diflufenican, is used for pre-planting and pre-emergence weeder of corn and soybeans for early control of Amaranthus retroflexus, Chenopodium glaucum, Debregeasia orientalis and Palmer amaranth (including weeds resistant to multiple herbicide modes of action) at 120-180 mL/ha, and full season control at 180-360 mL/ha.
The active ingredients of SC600 are Diflufenican and Metribuzin, which are used for weeding soybean before planting and emergence. SC617, with the active ingredients of Diflufenican and Isoxaflutole, is used for weeding corn before planting and emergence in the field. As a combination of Diflufenican and other herbicides, these two products provide broader weed control and address weed resistance in maize (field and seed) and soybeans.
The application of this series of herbicides reduces the competition of early weeds for seedlings, allowing the crop to receive additional water, sunlight and nutrients. In addition, these three formulations all have soil residual activity and have broad market prospects.
