Y-mAbs Appoints Oncology Executive Mary Tagliaferri to its Board of Directors

ECHEMI 2024-03-06

Y-mAbs, a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development and commercialization of novel antibody-based cancer therapeutics, has announced the appointment of Dr. Mary Tagliaferri to its Board of Directors. This strategic move comes as Y-mAbs aims to strengthen its expertise in the field of oncology and leverage Dr. Tagliaferri's extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Following a period of restructuring and layoffs, Y-mAbs has taken a significant step forward by welcoming Dr. Mary Tagliaferri to its Board of Directors. Dr. Tagliaferri is currently serving as the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President at Nektar Therapeutics, where she is responsible for evaluating the company's oncology pipeline and establishing key strategic partnerships. Prior to her role at Nektar, Dr. Tagliaferri held positions as the Chief Medical Officer at KangLaiTe-USA and as a co-founder, president, and board member at Bionovo. She also served as a board member at RayzeBio until its acquisition by BMS in 2021.

With nearly 30 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and expertise in oncology therapeutic development, Dr. Tagliaferri's addition to the board is expected to bring valuable insights and guidance to Y-mAbs. The company aims to leverage her expertise to advance its pipeline of antibody-based cancer treatments, including its Y-BiClone and SADA platforms for generating bispecific antibodies.

Y-mAbs faced a setback in 2022 when its B7-H3 monoclonal antibody product, Omblastys (omburtamab), received a complete response letter from the FDA. Despite initial promising results in treating neuroblastoma and other solid tumors, the FDA's decision led to a decline in the company's market position. Currently, Y-mAbs' only commercialized product is Danyelza, a GD2 monoclonal antibody approved by the FDA in 2020 for the treatment of pediatric and adult patients with neuroblastoma.

The appointment of Dr. Tagliaferri signals Y-mAbs' commitment to revitalizing its pipeline and expanding its capabilities in the field of oncology. By bringing on board an industry veteran with a proven track record in evaluating oncology therapies, Y-mAbs aims to enhance its strategic decision-making and strengthen its position as a leader in the development of innovative cancer treatments.

Y-mAbs' appointment of Dr. Mary Tagliaferri to its Board of Directors marks a significant milestone for the company. With her extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and deep understanding of oncology therapeutic development, Dr. Tagliaferri is expected to play a crucial role in guiding Y-mAbs' strategic initiatives. As Y-mAbs strives to overcome past challenges and pursue its mission of developing effective antibody-based cancer therapies, the addition of Dr. Tagliaferri to the board brings renewed optimism and reinforces the company's commitment to making a positive impact in the field of oncology.
