Alarming News: EU Reports Chinese Snacks and Nylon Smashers as Non-compliant for Export

ECHEMI 2024-03-15

In a recent report by the European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), it has come to light that certain Chinese snacks and nylon smashers being exported from China have been deemed non-compliant. This alarming revelation has raised concerns about the safety and quality of these products in the international market.

The report, dated March 14, 2024, highlights that the European Union has detected issues with both the Chinese snacks and nylon smashers. The specific reasons for their non-compliance have been listed in the report.

One of the cases involves nylon smashers exported from Ireland, which were found to have a migration of primary aromatic amines exceeding the acceptable limits (0.003 ± 0.0001, 0.004 ± 0.0001, 0.002 ± 0.0001 mg/kg). These products have not yet been released into the market, and a refusal of entry notification has been issued.

The second case involves snacks exported from Italy, where the presence of DNA from cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys was detected. The distribution information is yet to be provided, and the products have been officially detained.

It is crucial for export companies to adhere strictly to the import regulations of destination countries to ensure the safety and compliance of their products. This includes carefully monitoring the migration levels of substances in food contact materials, thus mitigating any potential risks associated with export.

The European Union's findings serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining high standards in the food industry and safeguarding consumers' health. This incident also emphasizes the need for continuous vigilance and compliance with international food safety regulations.
