trinamiX GmbH develops home near-infrared spectrometer for smartphones
trinamiX GmbH, a subsidiary of BASF SE, has developed a near-infrared spectrometer that measures wavelengths in the range of 1 to 3 microns and can be mounted on a smartphone or handheld device for cosmetic applications.
The smartphone prototype will be unveiled at BEAUTY Düsseldorf, from March 22 to 24. According to the company, the device can analyze a user's own skin on a molecular basis and obtain scientific information about their skin condition.
The company's device allows for the use of near-infrared spectroscopy analysis methods in consumer products and enables non-invasive measurement of biomarkers in skin and hair.
Wilfried Hermes, director of consumer electronics for North America and Europe at trinamiX GmbH, commented: "Imagine the trinamiX consumer spectrum as a camera in a smartphone or beauty device that can see things that are invisible to the human eye."
trinamiX plans to partner with companies to deliver industry-specific applications leveraging its technology. The first app is being developed in partnership with Revea, a company that provides personalized skin care products based on scientific analysis.
Troels Marstrand, founder and chief technology officer of Revea, commented:"trinamiX's technology is a game-changer for the industry. By measuring the moisture levels of a person's skin, this technology adds additional insights to reva's visual skin analysis. This will further improve skincare advice, helping users find treatments that suit their skin type and keep an eye on their moisture levels - all with just a simple scan. "
