BASF’s Glycol monoether plant at Zhanjiang Verbund Site begins construction
BASF's Glycol monoether plant at Zhanjiang Verbund Site has started construction. The new facility has a designed annual production capacity of 46,000 tons to meet the rapidly growing demand for brake fluid in the Asia-Pacific region. This new site is expected to be operational by the end of 2025, the unit will be China's first fully backward-integrated glycol monoether unit and the products will meet the rapidly growing demand for new brake fluids in the Chinese market.
Bir Darbar Mehta, BASF's senior vice president, responsible for petrochemicals in Asia Pacific, said: "As the first glycol monoether unit in China that is fully backward integrated into a steam cracker, the unit can meet the needs of the rapidly growing brake fluid market. Leveraging BASF’s proprietary process technology, the unit will be able to supply reliable, competitive, high-quality products to meet the needs of our downstream operations and customers. "

The new glycol monoether unit will use methanol and Polyethylene oxide to produce diethyleneglycolmonomethylether, triethylene glycol monomethyl ether, tetraethylene glycol monomethyl ether. Triethylene glycol monomethyl ether is the main raw material for the production of new automobile brake fluids.
