Outbreak of Highly Pathogenic H5N2 Avian Influenza in Mexico Raises Concerns
Mexico has recently encountered a concerning outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza, according to the latest report from the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH). The emergence of this viral infection has raised alarms and necessitates immediate attention.
Mexico, in the grip of H5N2 Avian Influenza:
In a recent communication to the WOAH, the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture reported a significant outbreak of H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza on March 25, 2024. The affected region is identified as the state of Michoacán. The outbreak is believed to have originated from contact with wild species. Disturbingly, clinical and laboratory tests have indicated that approximately 120 poultry birds are suspected to have been infected, out of which 117 have succumbed to the disease, while three have been euthanized and properly disposed of.
