Mitsui Chemicals Asahi Life Materials develops spunbond nonwovens for home composting
Mitsui Chemicals Asahi Life Materials has developed a spunbond nonwoven using biodegradable plastic suitable for home composting. The move comes in response to growing demand for home composting around the world.
The company plans to set up production units for conventional and thermoforming grades of this nonwoven by the end of 2024. Applications being looked at cover a wide range of industrial sectors, including beverage filters and food contact packaging materials as well as agricultural materials.
The key feature of the newly developed biodegradable plastic is its ability to decompose in a home composting environment at temperatures around 28 degrees Celsius.
