EU Revises Maximum Residue Limits for Dithianon in Certain Products

In a recent development, the European Union (EU) has revised the maximum residue limits (MRLs) for the fungicide dithianon in various food commodities. According to the official journal of the EU, on May 16, 2024, the European Commission published Regulation (EU) 2024/1314, amending the existing regulation (EC) No 396/2005.

The key changes are as follows:

1. For oranges, the MRL for dithianon has been set at 1 mg/kg.
2. For almonds, the MRL has been reduced to 0.05 mg/kg.
3. For apples, the MRL has been increased to 1.5 mg/kg.
4. For onions, the MRL has been set at 0.01 mg/kg.
5. For rice, the MRL has been established at 0.05 mg/kg.
6. For celery, the MRL has been set at 0.01 mg/kg.
7. For cow's milk, the MRL has been set at 0.01 mg/kg.
8. For honey and other bee products, the MRL has been set at 0.01 mg/kg.

The new regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union and will be applicable from December 5, 2024.
