South Korea's Ramen Exports Reach New Heights
South Korea's ramen exports have hit a new record high in April 2024, surpassing $100 million for the first time. According to data released by the Korea Customs Service, South Korea's ramen exports reached $108.59 million in April, a remarkable 46.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
This strong performance marks the highest monthly export figure on record, surpassing the previous high set in May 2022 when exports grew by 49.3%. The first four months of 2024 have seen cumulative ramen exports reach $378.86 million, a 34.4% increase year-on-year.
Several factors have contributed to this remarkable export growth. The global popularity of Korean music, movies, and dramas has heightened international awareness and demand for Korean ramen products. Additionally, the persistent rise in global food prices has driven increased consumer preference for affordable and convenient ramen meals.
A standout performer within the Korean ramen export sector has been the "Fire Chicken" series from Samyang Foods, which has gained significant traction with overseas consumers. In the first quarter of 2024, Samyang Foods reported a 57% increase in consolidated sales, with overseas sales surging by 85% and accounting for 75% of the company's total sales.
This export success is a testament to the growing global appeal of Korean ramen and the strength of the country's food manufacturing capabilities. As the trend continues, industry experts anticipate that full-year ramen exports could exceed $110 million, setting a new industry benchmark.
