KCC partners with LG Chem to develop coatings using environmentally friendly raw materials
KCC and LG Chem signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the KCC Central Research Center in Mabuk-dong, Yongin in-si for research and development of technologies related to environmentally friendly materials and coatings.
Through this MOU, KCC and LG Chem will apply environmentally friendly raw materials based on carbon dioxide conversion or microbial fermentation to coating resin synthesis, and jointly develop them in various coating fields such as automobiles, auto parts, industry, and mobile applications.
KCC looks forward to expanding environmentally friendly products and reducing the energy required to produce products through cooperation with LG Chem.
KCC Vice President Kim Sang-hoon said, "The two companies signed an MOU and are expected to make progress in developing products using environmentally friendly raw materials. The carbon-neutral material developed by LG Chem has excellent environmental protection and can also improve product quality, so the synergy with coatings will be very significant."
Lee Jong-gu, vice president of LG Chem said, "It is of great significance that two leading companies in the chemical industry met and decided to join forces to work on environmental protection. We will propose new standards for environmentally friendly products and strive to develop various materials."
KCC is an environmentally friendly water-based coatings developer whose products include Supro Putty Washable, low-temperature cure coatings for electric vehicles and water-based coating mixtures for automotive repairs. KCC is working towards ESG management through the formation of an Environmental Safety Committee and company-wide focus.
