Axalta launches ISCC Plus certified bio-based powder coating

Axalta Coating Systems has launched the Alesta BioCore range of powder coating solutions derived from non-food organic waste. The new product reduces CO2 emissions by up to 25% compared to existing products containing fossil fuel-based polyester resins while delivering the same performance benefits and features.

The new range marks another milestone for Axalta, which earlier this year became the first manufacturer in the powder coatings industry to receive ISCC Plus certification for its bio-based raw material sourcing practices. 

As building, construction and industrial customers strive to reduce their carbon footprint, replacing traditional polyester resins with sustainable solutions such as Alesta BioCore is a fast and cost-effective way to reduce scope 3 emissions.

This is achieved by using natural raw materials from sustainable and fully traceable non-food sources, which removes any additional burden on the food supply. These materials have significantly lower embodied carbon content but offer all the same benefits as fossil fuel-based equivalents.

The new range of bio-based powder coatings includes:

Alesta SD BioCore Architectural SuperDurable is a range of ultra-durable bio-based powder coatings formulated with the highest quality, high-performance outdoor-grade pigments. This Qualicoat Class II and AAMA2604 certified product line offers excellent weather and UV resistance and comes with a warranty of up to 25 years

Alesta AP BioCore Architectural is a range of standard durable bio-based powder coatings formulated with high quality outdoor grade pigments. Designed for outdoor building substrates and outdoor structures such as cladding, it meets standards such as Qualicoat Class I, AAMA 2603 and GSB Florida 1 (Standard) and comes with a warranty of up to 15 years.

Alesta IP BioCore Industrial, is a range of bio-based powder coatings for outdoor industrial applications that offer outstanding weather resistance, outstanding outdoor durability mechanical properties and best-in-class reactivity.

The new product will be available in Europe from May 21, 2024.
