China's Exported Chili Flakes Detected with Salmonella

On May 31, 2024, the European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) reported that China's exported chili flakes were found to be non-compliant. Specifically, the notification stated that Spanish authorities detected the presence of Salmonella in a batch of dried chili flakes from China.   

According to the RASFF alert, the affected product has not yet been released to the market and is currently being held by the authorities. This marks the second time this year that Chinese food exports have been flagged by the EU's rapid warning system.

Food Partner Network, a prominent industry publication, has urged Chinese exporters to strictly follow the import requirements of destination countries. Companies must pay close attention to the presence of pathogenic bacteria in their products and ensure the overall safety of food and related items to mitigate export risks.

The EU's RASFF system plays a crucial role in facilitating the rapid exchange of information between member states regarding threats to human health stemming from food and feed.
